The fix wasn't heroic. First, write down the one right way to do the review. Second, build a dashboard that runs the mechanical parts and shows status at a glance. Third, strip every manual step the dashboard now covers out of the monthly cycle.
The groundwork was laid years earlier with graphical dashboards in Power BI and Alteryx for VAT return data — the habit of turning raw compliance data into something a reviewer can actually reason about.
The result compounds: every cycle that runs on the standard is a cycle nobody spends on mechanics, and the review itself got more consistent, not less careful.
