Indirect Tax Manager · EMEA VAT Specialist · Bengaluru

Ten years of EMEA VAT, one new toolkit of AI — and a clear view of which is for what. First, the work:

Where I come from

About me →

AI should do the tedious work. People should do the judgment.

Most of compliance is repeatable: collect, prepare, check, chase, file. That work belongs to automation — and increasingly to AI agents that handle it end to end.

What doesn't belong to automation is the signature. A human should decide what's right, defensible, and ready to file. Teams that split the work this way scale without losing control — and that's the split I build for.

Brilliant at

Volume work: first drafts, data preparation, reconciliations, status chasing — almost anything in front of it, instantly.

Hopeless at

Knowing which output is defensible to a tax authority, and having the judgment to sign it.

Client data never leaves the building.

Local-first AI

Finance teams have a real problem with AI: the tools are brilliant, but sending client data to someone else's server is a non-starter. In tax, confidentiality isn't a preference. It's the job.

So the setup I champion is local-first: open-weight models running on on-premise, DGX-class hardware, inside the firm's own walls. The AI gets to be fully useful; the data never crosses the boundary.

It follows the same rule as everything else I build: automation prepares, humans sign. And now, nothing leaves.

ON-PREM

Own the hardware

A DGX-class GPU server inside the firm's network — the models live where the data lives.

LOCAL LLMS

Open-weight models

Tuned for tax workflows and run locally — no calls to external AI APIs, ever.

AIR-GAPPED

Sealed workflows

Client files are processed inside the boundary; nothing is uploaded to third-party servers.

AUDITABLE

Logged and signed

Every AI step recorded and reviewed — a human signs everything that files.
